Is the semester you're interested in not open for applications yet? Fill out this quick form and we'll send you a notification email as soon as you can apply!

Great! We actually have a separate alumni application that you'll need to submit instead of this one.

Please format:mm/dd/yyyy

We get this question a lot so ... just FYI - married couples will need to submit separate applications!

We get this question a lot, so we wanted to make a quick note — no, you don't have to be in school to volunteer with us! Many of our volunteers are in school, so this just helps us get to know you a bit more, but if you're not that's no problem.

In this section, please list involvement and achievements that you think will help you be successful in this program. Be sure to include any long-term volunteer service such as the Peace Corps, a religious mission or ministry, etc.

Examples might be sports, leadership, art, music, academic, experience with children

Where would you like to go?

Here is the fun part! Feel free to check as many countries as you're interested in hearing more details about.

You'll have the chance to talk to your representative about which countries you're most interested in before anything is official, but for now this helps us know a little bit more about what type of experience you're looking for so we can help you find the best program for you. The more locations you list, the easier it is for us to get you a spot in a country you want most, and the easier it is for your rep to know why you're excited about serving with ILP!

If you're not sure now, don't worry because you'll have chances to change your mind before you're officially assigned. (You can also check out after you submit this application to read up on some details of each country — who knows, maybe an unexpected adventure is waiting for you!)

Don't see a country from our website on the list? We may be limited as to where you can send you because of housing and/or visa requirements, so the countries listed below are possibilities for you and your situation.

Our program is based on travel regulations and costs for U.S. passport holders. Applicants who are native speakers of English and reside in North America but who are not American citizens may participate in the program. However, there may be additional requirements, costs, or limitations depending on differences in visa requirements or other aspects of travel.

The issuing agency is printed on the information page of the passport.

Each country has their own unique visa requirements - some don't even require a visa while others have some complicated rules. Don't worry though because ILP will take care of getting yours if it's needed!

With some visa applications, they use your driver's license information as a way to show proof of residency, so please fill out that info below.

Personal Health:

Code of Personal Conduct

ILP volunteers are responsible to understand and uphold the following moral standards:

*  Abstain from alcohol, tobacco, or drugs *  Do not use vulgar or profane language
*  Obey the law *  Maintain a neat appearance in class
*  Follow all rules and help other volunteers do the same *  Abstain from romantic relationships

  1. ILP volunteers should avoid traveling alone. In taxis or after 9 pm, they must be in groups of 3 or more.
  2. ILP volunteers are to exchange money only at officially approved exchange points.
  3. ILP volunteers should not associate with people who threaten the safety and/or standards of the group or an individual (as defined by the Regional Administrator).
  4. ILP volunteers may not be involved in romantic relationships or physically intimate behavior (non-marital). The standard is not how participants characterize the relationships or behavior but how others perceive it. Volunteers may not pair off (be alone or exclusive) with others who are potential romantic interests.
  5. ILP volunteers should remain politically neutral in their conversations as well as their activities.
  6. Volunteers may not miss teaching for any reason other than illness.
  7. Volunteers may not allow teaching to be filmed, recorded, or copied in any way without the written consent of the Program Directors. This includes giving copies of the book, teaching episode manuals, and any other pages of material.
  8. ILP volunteers must have travel plans (outside of the city) approved by the Head Teacher and Regional Coordinator. Information necessary for approval: location, traveling companions, means of transportation, contact information in case of an emergency, and return time to school.
  9. ILP volunteers must follow all travel advisories and warnings issued by the U.S. government. (You may obtain a list of these advisories by calling the U.S. embassy.)
  10. ILP volunteers may not receive compensation for services rendered in or out of the schools (i.e. teaching English to outside groups, accepting full or part-time jobs, etc.)
  11. ILP volunteers must refrain from making any sort of religious proselytizing or solicitation, and from distributing literature that could be construed as having religious content (where such actions are forbidden by law or by ILP Head Teachers or Coordinators.)
  12. ILP volunteers agree to follow all reasonable curfews and/or rules given by the Head Teacher and/or Advisor(s).
  13. ILP volunteers must live with common courtesy, respect of property, and maintain a personal commitment to conduct life in a responsible, professional, and mature demeanor in and out of the school.

If there are violations of the Rules or Code of Conduct, Head Teachers and Regional Coordinators will work with those concerned to arrive at a solution. In rare situations, if deemed appropriate, the ILP Directors and Board of Trustees may dismiss a teacher for violation of rules or code of conduct. Head Teachers and Regional Coordinators are required to report any violation or suspicion of violation of the rules to ILP Directors. We also ask that any volunteers e-mail the ILP office if they have concerns regarding their Head Teacher’s conduct in relation to the rules and code of conduct. All e-mail of this nature will be kept completely confidential unless permission is given otherwise from the volunteer.
